New York, NY – Fans of stand-up comedian Chris Distefano have something new to cheer about beyond his punchlines. The beloved comic, known for his appearances on MTV’s Guy Code and Girl Code, as well as his comedy specials Size 38 Waist and Speshy Weshy, recently revealed that he is engaged to his partner of over a decade, Jasmin Canuelas. The announcement, made during a heartfelt on-air moment on New York Living in January 2025, marks a significant milestone in the couple’s journey together.
Distefano, 40, and Canuelas, known to many as “Jazzy,” first crossed paths in July 2014 at a lively Brooklyn bar, Place to Beach. What started as a chance encounter quickly blossomed into a deep connection. “She’s Puerto Rican, I was Italian—it was like West Side Story stuff,” Distefano humorously recalled during a 2022 appearance on the Howie Mandel Does Stuff podcast.
Despite an initial rebuff—Canuelas turned down his dance-floor advances citing a boyfriend at the time—the two reconnected when she was single again, leading to their first date just weeks later.
Their relationship moved at lightning speed. By their second date, Canuelas was pregnant with their first child, daughter Delilah, who arrived in 2015. The couple welcomed their second daughter, Violette, in 2021, and Canuelas brought a son, Tristan, from a previous relationship into their blended family. Now, after a decade of shared laughter, parenthood, and occasional chaos, Distefano decided it was time to make it official.
“I told the kids on a Monday morning that I got an engagement ring for their mom,” Distefano shared on New York Living. The proposal unfolded in their living room, with Distefano down on one knee as Canuelas walked in. “It was a whole beautiful thing,” he said, noting the mixed reactions from their children—Delilah’s excitement, Tristan’s playful reluctance to be filmed, and the joy of the moment tying it all together. “Now we’re engaged. So now it’s really serious.”
Her innovative Jazzy Method BTM (Bodyweight Training to Music) program helps clients—particularly women overcoming postpartum depression—reclaim their strength through music-driven workouts. A former art school student, Canuelas pivoted to fitness after the birth of her eldest child, Tristan, finding purpose in helping others through movement.
Distefano has long woven Canuelas into his comedy, regaling audiences with tales of their early days and family life. From their meet-cute on a Coney Island dance floor to navigating the wild ride of raising three kids, their story resonates with fans who see them as a relatable, down-to-earth duo. Their appearances together on Distefano’s Chrissy Chaos podcast have only deepened that connection, offering glimpses into the humor and heart that define their bond.
The engagement news comes as Distefano continues to shine in the comedy world. With a Hulu special, Chris Distefano: Speshy Weshy, and his ongoing Hey Babe! podcast with Sal Vulcano, the Staten Island resident shows no signs of slowing down. Yet, amidst the spotlight, it’s clear that his home life with Canuelas and their children remains his anchor.
As the couple plans their next chapter, fans are buzzing with excitement. Whether it’s Distefano’s signature chaos or Canuelas’ steady strength, this engagement is a testament to a partnership that’s thrived through it all—laughter, love, and a little bit of salsa.
